About

Amparo began practicing both pilates and massage therapy in her native Colombia 20 years ago.  As a resident of the local area for the past 13 years, Amparo believes in the importance of health and wellness and enjoys passing on her knowledge for the benefit of her clients and their well being.

Amparo augmented her prior pilates education with a 600 hour certification in classical pilates (mat and apparatus) under a 2nd generation instructor who studied under  Romana Kryzanowska, the protege of Joseph Pilates..

She also specializes in deep tissue  and neuromuscular massage aimed at alleviating stress as well as chronic and acute pain and has completed  her certification in Clinical Orthopedic Manual Therapy (COMT).  She treats many clients for problems with neck, shoulders, and back.  At a typical massage session, she will finish with stretching to increase flexibility and overall well being.  Oftentimes she also ends Pilates sessions with stretching.

The COMT Certification process consists of 5 comprehensive workshops in Neck, Back, Lower Extremity, Shoulder and Stretching along with Kinesiology and Anatomy Classes with Dr. Joe Muscolino.  More information can be found at: http://www.learnmuscles.com/COMT_orthomassage.html

Continuing Education is an integral part of the massage therapy and pilates practices and Amparo attends as many workshops as possible, especially as related to pain management and fitness..

In addition to her training in massage therapy and pilates, Amparo is a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT), a Certified Spinning Instructor and holds Zumba lessons at the Washington Senior Center.  Amparo also has her degree in business administration from the Universidad Central of Valle, Colombia.
